Minnesota Climate Innovation Finance Authority - MnCIFA
The Minnesota Department of Information Technology Services (MNIT), partnering with the Minnesota Department of Commerce and the Minnesota Climate Innovation Finance Authority (MnCIFA), needed an experienced web agency to design and develop a new Drupal website for the newly established MnCIFA. Minnesota Climate Innovation Finance Authority Website
The Minnesota Climate Innovation Finance Authority, or MnCIFA, is a state organization focused on supporting climate and clean energy financing initiatives in Minnesota. As a newly established authority, MnCIFA needed a modern website that could introduce the organization, explain its mission, provide funding information, highlight funded projects, support public meetings, and create a flexible foundation for future digital services.
The Need
MnCIFA needed a functional, extendable, responsive, and user-friendly website built on Drupal. Because the organization was new, the website needed to do more than present basic information. It needed to help define MnCIFA’s public-facing digital presence, explain available funding opportunities, guide prospective applicants through the funding process, and provide a clear structure for future content growth.
The site also needed to support a variety of content types and use cases, including funded project summaries, borrower information, project descriptions, images, location details, funding amounts, taxonomy tagging, application guidelines, FAQs, public meeting materials, strategic planning documents, staff and board information, committees, partnerships, and potential future API integrations. As a State of Minnesota website, the project also required responsive design, accessibility support, security best practices, and collaboration with MNIT on Acquia development, staging, and production environments.
The Solution
Nighthawk designed and developed a new Drupal website that gives MnCIFA a flexible, scalable platform for managing public information, funding content, project information, meeting materials, and organizational updates. The website was planned around MnCIFA’s need to communicate clearly with applicants, partners, public stakeholders, and Minnesota residents.
The Drupal CMS structure was designed to support content flexibility and long-term maintainability. This included content types and page structures for funded projects, project qualifications, funding details, public meetings, staff, board members, committees, strategic documents, partnerships, FAQs, and other key sections of the site. The website was built with a responsive front-end theme for desktop, tablet, and mobile users, along with accessibility-conscious design and development practices.
Nighthawk also supported wireframes, visual design, development, testing, remediation, security best practices, Acquia configuration, and launch support in collaboration with MNIT. The result is a modern Drupal website foundation that helps MnCIFA communicate its mission, guide potential funding applicants, showcase funded projects, and grow its digital presence over time.
